"Approximately 15 to 50% of women will develop
lymphedema after breast cancer treatment"
Casley-Smith 1997
In order to evaluate for possible lymphedema after surgery, radiation
or chemotherapy, it is desirable to have baseline volumes calculated for
both arms. Under a newly established program, Delmar Physical Therapy
and Lymphedema Treatment Center will provide, at no charge, limb volume
measurements for any pre or post treatment breast cancer patient. The
data collected, in table and graph format, will also be forwarded to the
appropriate physician.
Early diagnosis of lymphedema means easier management of the condition
by the patient. It is hoped that this program will significantly increase
the early detection rate by providing the patient and physician with relevant
data.
